The Warning

By Nichole Camarillo
She's here! YES! I feel like I've waited forever to share with you guys, but she's finally here. This painting and style is a little different from what you're used to seeing from me. Maybe even a bit darker, too. Don't be scared. ;) I'm really proud of this painting and really excited about the new paths unfolding for my art. I hope you enjoy the hell out of it. Now without further adieu... Ladies and Gentlemen, "The Warning".

"The Warning" by Nichole Camarillo

[For detailed crops, you can view the Preview Post for this painting.]

Did you enjoy the hell outta that video? Lol. If you love it anywhere near as much as I do, I hope you share it with your friends. Thank you so much for checking it out. There's going to be a lot more to come. I'm really looking forward to this new year and you should definitely stay tuned to what I'll be bringing. Happy New Year! :)

SNEAK PEEK! [The Warning]

By Nichole Camarillo

Hi Everyone! It's been SO long since I've been able to share a new painting with you. Probably a good six months. :/ But I've finally settled in and set up in my new place/studio and have been painting, painting, painting! It's time to show you guys what I've been up to. Are you excited? ...Because I'm REALLY excited. I'm currently working on wrapping up a time-lapse video to go along with this new painting release. Once that's good to go, I'll reveal this beauty in it's entirety. For now, I simply HAD to let you take a sneak peek...

"The Warning" by Nichole Camarillo

It's madness. Seriously. ...Madness. But in a good way. :) I hope you guys are just as psyched as I am. I can't WAIT to share the real deal. And, of course, show you the painting in the making. Time-lapse and full release coming VERY soon. Stay posted!

Art Never Dies: The King of Pop

By Nichole Camarillo
This is it, you guys (no pun intended). It's been a long and exciting road in this painting series. But this new painting marks the end of the "Art Never Dies" portraits. Which means I now bring to you... That's right... Michael. Jackson. :D It was such a beautiful experience working on this painting and video. And although choosing which songs would make the cut was the most difficult part by FAR, everything took a lot of hard work. I'm so proud of this series, and have had so much fun with it. I really want to thank you guys for being a part of it. Now, I introduce to you... The King of Pop.

"ART NEVER DIES: THE KING OF POP" by Nichole Camarillo

[Above: close up of shoulder detail]

[Above: close up of hair detail]
I definitely wanted to give you some zoomed in shots first. As you're about to see in the final image, almost all of the metallic gold and silver detail is lost when shrunken down so small. Basically, when looking at the end image, anything you see that is yellow, is actually a super awesome twinkling gold. Lol. And anything gray is actually silver. Here we go...

YAY! Michael!
I appreciated different things about each artist in this series before beginning. And through the process of painting their portrait and making these videos, I've been able to appreciate them in a whole new light. Especially Michael.

I was a very big fan of his music before his passing and was horribly saddened by the news. But I don't think I really understood how deep and powerful his music actually was. Or how sad and fragile he himself actually was. Or how, despite all of the negativity surrounding him, he was able to affect so many MILLIONS of people in such a positive way. He was an incredible force. And I really felt that while working on this project. So on that note, let's take a look at the time-lapse...

You guys usually only see the end result. Or, with this series, you've also been able to see a quick 3-5 minute video of the painting process. But there are sometimes weeks of research, of learning, of really getting to KNOW as much as I can about each of these people. Regardless of how much I thought I had already known. Going through so many photos, watching and reading so many interviews, watching and reading how other people perceived them, finding out what they did with life, what they gave, who they knew, who they loved, who THEY were fans of... all of it. There were even songs of Michael's  that I absolutely hated before this project. But I really sat down and listened to each and every one of those songs. REALLY listened. Now... I think they may even be some of my favorites. Lol.

I do all of that with one goal in mind. So that even in such a simple, minimal, not even close to photo-realistic portrait, the viewer can still say- Wow... that really is him. That really is Michael Jackson. And that really is Mac Dre. And Bruce Lee, and Marilyn Monroe, and Frida Kahlo. I just wanted to feel like I really connected to each artist. And then through my art, show you what I've seen.

Thank you guys SO much for sticking with me through this project. And for all of the wonderful feedback you've given. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. It's been a lot of fun to do, and definitely to share with you. If you are new to this series, or just want a refresher, you can check out the rest of the "Art Never Dies" posts. And for those of you that were Winners in our Facebook Give-Aways, then you can be happy to know that prizes will be mailed soon. :)

The Way We Get By

By Nichole Camarillo
I have been working working working. I'm sorry I haven't had much time to share what it is I've been working on. There is a LOT to come. May and June are going to be crazy for me. I will try my best to keep you guys up to date with all the cool things happening and all the crazy art I'm creating. Speaking of which... I have a new painting I am SO over the top thrilled with. It was such a fun one to do. This painting will be on display in an upcoming show that's right around the corner. More details on that soon. Right now, let me introduce the newest insanity in my collection.

"The Way We Get By" by Nichole Camarillo

I told you it's insanity. ;) Oh oh oh! Guess what else I have for you? No? Not much for guessing? Well, alright... I give. I was able to capture the process in a time-lapse animation. YAY! So, definitely give it a watch... I hope you enjoy. I'll be back with more madness once I knock out some of these deadlines.

Art Never Dies: A Mac Named DRE

By Nichole Camarillo
Yeah, yeah. I blew off finishing up work on Sunday to drink wine, eat chocolate, lounge on zee (that's French for "the") couch and watch Jurassic Park. Thus, resulting in a delayed release. For those of you that were looking forward to yesterday's new painting release, I apologize. For those of you that have no idea that I'm coming late with this- YAY! NEW RELEASE TODAY! YAY! I'm on time with EVERYTHING! YAY! Aren't you SO excited?! :D

"ART NEVER DIES: A MAC NAMED DRE" by Nichole Camarillo

Like it? Share it! :)
Thanks guys. Four down, one to go...

Sneak Peek: Mac Dre

By Nichole Camarillo
Alright, this has got to be the most fun portrait yet. I am SO in love with how it came out. Not only that, but the process was just as entertaining for me. You guys are really going to like how it came out. The colors, the expression, the fact that it's MAC DRE[!]... come on now. If you're an awesome Facebook Fan, then you already got a little taste of the progress last night. But today I finished the painting, so I wanted to share with everyone. Ready?

Andre Hicks A.K.A. "Mac Dre" (1970-2004)

TELL me how excited you are. Seriously. It will definitely please. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled this coming Tuesday (April 6th) for the full release. That will also include a time-lapse video. :)

Art Never Dies: Master of Self

By Nichole Camarillo
Bruce Lee is now live and in full effect. yyyyYES! I feel like we've waited so long for this one. And I really don't think he needs any introduction. So here you have it, folks. Let's start the show...

"Art Never Dies: Master of Self" by Nichole Camarillo

And let's not forget the hard work behind it...

Yeah. I'm spent. Lol. Well, the actual painting time was about 2 hours. Which isn't so bad. But everything that has surrounded this release..?? That's a world of exhaustion. I'm just so glad he's up for you guys to enjoy. And of course for you to share with your friends. ;D

Enjoy your Sunday! I'll be back with more soon...

Sneak Peek: Bruce Lee

By Nichole Camarillo
Bruce is busting out! Umm... again. For those of you that are just tuning in, this is the second Bruce that I have finished. I put the finishing touches on this Bruce earlier this afternoon. And since, have been putting together a (headache of a) time-lapse video for you guys. *Sigh* Let's hope my luck or patience (or both) start pulling through soon. Yeah? Yeah. Otherwise, I maaay explode. And while we await that disaster, here's a bite-size version of Mr. Lee for you guys to snack on...

Can we say damn? Because... I really loved the first one, but... DAMN. You guys are really going to love this one. If we subtract all the headache, mess, extra time, and other nonsense that is thrusting me into grumpmode, I'm actually REALLY happy that I did this second Bruce.  I can't wait to share him with you... Full painting (and time-lapse video) drop soon! Stay posted. :)

Art Never Dies: Marilyn Monroe

By Nichole Camarillo
Hello everyone. I trust you're all feeling great. What's that? No? You were horribly sick all week and so was everyone else you know? Hmm... yeah me too. It super sucked. BUT now I have a little treat to distract us! Cheers to distractions! Woo! :D Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Marilyn Monroe...

"Art Never Dies: Marilyn Monroe" by Nichole Camarillo

Marilyn! This incredibly beautiful and captivating gem shines far too bright to be ignored. Because her intoxicating sensuality and charm still has you buzzed, she was a must in this collection.

Oh, what? You want to see and hear me personally introduce Marilyn? *Flattered* And you- you want to be certain that I mean it when I say my mother is crazy? And you want a big ginormous hint as to what kind of massive coolness I'm gonna drop on you before this is all over?? Well hot DAMN! ..All you had to do was ask! ;D Let's start the show...

I know that video is titled "Art Never Dies: Marilyn Monroe", but I'm sure we can all agree SuperextraADDhalfsickhalfbuzzedridiculousnonsensespecial is how it would most properly be named. Right? Right. *Nod* So this is where I make up for that with a really cool mini time-lapse animation.

Effing sweet. Now we're even.
Stay tuned for Bruce! :D

Art Never Dies: La Friducha Fuerte

By Nichole Camarillo
Who was here for our last session? *Raises hand* Okay, great. Thanks for keeping up to date. SO, where we're at now is the real deal. Since my computer is holding all of my files hostage, I won't be uploading my new paintings to the website for a while. But definitely check in here for everything you need. Okay, now on with the show... Are you ready?
'Art Never Dies: La Friducha Fuerte' by Nichole Camarillo

HELL YES! FRIDA! XD For those of you that don't know, this woman's paintings are the reason I started painting. Her life, her struggle, her every tiny speck of being have heavily influenced my perspective on art, as well as my personal expression through my art. I was introduced to her paintings... ohhhh... about 10 years ago? Before that I had no interest in painting or in any paintings I had ever seen. And then... along came Frida. This beautiful, strong, demanding, powerful force of nature. This incredible woman has poured her heart out for the world to see. Her love, her pain, her misfortune, her mistakes. At that point in my life, I could not believe that someone (a woman at that) could be so horribly, brutally, honest. And proud of it. So proud of everything she was and stood for. She had absolutely no shame in who she was, how she lived, what she wanted, or how she'd get it. SAVAGE. Really though. Frida Kahlo was a savage. ass. woman. And I love her for teaching me that.

This entire series of paintings is definitely a fun one for me. And I was definitely careful in choosing which artists to allow you to see through my eyes. But Frida... maaaan oh man... hands down, most personal of the series. It was a pleasure. It was an honor. I'm only sorry I didn't do this sooner. And as promised... my trip along the way... Enjoy :)

More paintings in this series coming soon. Stay posted.

Whether you'll be disturbed by it or not, is irrelevant. You're going to love it. This is the first time I have ever painted something of this nature. Although I was a bit uncomfortable painting this one, I was definitely more uncomfortable not painting it. I had to share this. I had to paint this. Well, not until you get your badass wall-covering poster for yourself. ;D You can view all of the products in this line at my shop. [Click Here For Happy Shopping.]

Aaand draw the curtains...

If you would like to view this image larger [please do], then you may visit her gallery page by clicking here. You can also view the gallery homepage to keep up with the previous releases you may have missed, as well as the LAST release date in this project.

Isn't she gorgeous? Let me know what you think... How does she strike you? Yay? Neigh? I look forward to your thoughts. Can't wait to read them, so don't forget to leave them. Did that rhyme? :/ Hmm. That wasn't intentional, sorry. *shrug

Update on the votes... Round three polls closed this morning at midnight. Thank you guys so much for being involved. After all, this is for you. So, it's good to know you're getting what you want. Or at least what you ask for. Ha.

Results of the voting? Well my friends, there was an overwhelming response of greed. ;) Only a handful of you chose to spread the wealth and have three winners. The rest of you chose to keep it all to yourself. Majority ruled, and one lucky winner will receive a mystery prize from yours truly. No hints as to what it will be, but the winner will have their choice of painting to go on the prize.

Who is this lucky winner, you ask? .....I don't know. Lol. The winner will be chosen at 1pm today. Only followers of this blog are eligible to win. Please feel free to join in on the fun before then to participate in this round's give-away. Sneak Peek @ Release Three

by Nichole Camarillo

Ohhh myyy.... Do you guys even realize where we're at right now? This is the Sneak Peek of Round THREE's release. Round. Three. Seriously, this is really flying by now. Sigh. Alright, well, let's not let my separation anxiety come between you and the sneak peek you're here for.

Release three of four in July's 'One A Week' project has less than a day left before she's unleashed onto the world. The full painting, details, and product line will launch tomorrow. But before we go swimming in that ocean, why don't we get a little wet...

Release Three of Four - By Nichole Camarillo

She's hot. Like, crazy hot. I think you'll love her as much as I do. :)
When you guys see this painting in its entirety, you might not be able to appreciate how much is actually going on. There are a lot of textures and a lot of small details that may slide past what your eyes can grasp. So with this sneak peek I wanted to try and focus on those details. And just in case you were wondering, all of those lines you see were not done with a stencil or comb or crazy brush. Each and every single line, dot, swirl, circle, whatever, were done freehand and one at a time. ALL of them. Lol. I really am amazed that my fingers didn't cramp up and break off.
Alright people, you know how this goes down...

Give-Away!
Round three may have one winner. It may have three. That depends solely upon your voting vivacity. Heh. According to the current poll results, it looks as though there will be ONE winner. If you're not happy with this being the outcome, get on over to right side of this page and vote. Today is the last day for any changes to the polls. They will close at midnight tonight.

And of course, all are welcome to start following this blog by clicking the 'FOLLOW' button to the left of this page. Depending on how you are viewing this page, it may say 'Join This Site'. Only followers of this blog are eligible to win. Join in by no later than 1pm tomorrow and you too can play in this round's give-away. :)

Recap; Polls close @ midnight. Winner (or winners) picked tomorrow @1pm. Hot painting coming your way. ;) Good luck to everyone!

Release Two - Pale September

By Nichole Camarillo

It is 4:30 in the morning right now, people. I really hope someone out there appreciates my dedication and hard work. Lol. Oh I'm so tired. Alright, alright, enough whining... Well, Release Two of four in my July 'One A Week' project is now gracing us with her presence. [Impatient people; VIEW NOW] As I promised, the new painting is now available in print sizes up to 36" X 48", t-shirts, sweaters, mousepads, stickers, hats, bags, keychains, mugs and more. Skateboard and shoes for this product line will be available later this week. I'll be sure to keep you posted on those. You can view all of the products in this line at my shop. Okay, here we go...
Allow me to introduce the newest addition... "Pale September" By Nichole Camarillo. If you would like to view this image larger [please do], then you may visit her gallery page by clicking here. You can also view the gallery homepage to keep up with the next release dates in this project.

For those of you that can spare a moment, please leave me your thoughts about this new painting. It would mean so much to me. I would love to hear from you.

Update... As you may have noticed, the Round 2 polls are now down. The polls closed at midnight this morning, and I have counted and verified each and every single vote by hand.

Yeah, okay, maybe not that last part. But either way, the votes are in! What did you guys choose? What painting is your number one? Here are the results...

The obvious winner for the choice of prize is the artist print. KILLED that vote. Wow. Winner for choice of painting was a close one though. "What's A Girl To Do" won by only one single vote. I must admit, watching the votes was pretty intense for me. If it hadn't had been such a close race, I probably would have thought nothing of it, but I was glued. And every time I encouraged more votes, they would sway a bit. Back and forth, back and forth. It was too much for me to stand. Ha. I'm glad it's over and TWO lucky winners will get to enjoy the results. :)

NOTE:
Cut off time to become a follower and be eligible for this give-away, is 1:00pm. At that time, you are definitely still encouraged to follow, but will be eligible for give-aways after this one. Much more to come, so don't you fret.

Alright ladies & gents... NAP TIME! :D YAAAAAY!!!

SNEAK PEEK @ Release Two

by Nichole Camarillo

As slow as the time seemed to creep before the Round One Release, that definitely wasn't the case this time. This week flew by WAY too fast. There was so much going on. There were so many things to do and new faces to greet, I almost feel dizzy. I hope I make the deadline for you guys. Well... by that I mean, I will make the deadline, I just hope I live past it. Ha. As you all know, I am very drained. Thank you to everyone pushing me forward! All of the encouraging messages, comments, emails, everything... it makes such a difference. And it without a doubt makes all of this worth it. You guys are great. :)

Release two of four in July's 'One A Week' project is rounding that corner at full steam now. The full painting, details, and product line will launch tomorrow. YAY! But before I drop that on you, why don't I ease you in, yeah? Alright, let's have a look...

Release Two of Four - By Nichole Camarillo

The gold takes it to a whole other level. Seriously. She's fabulous. :) I think the skulls are my favorite part though (of course). I can't wait to share her with you. Alright now, let's bring on the fun...

Give-Away!
Round two has two winners, you guys. That means more chances to win, so I hope you're following along. Get your votes in. As of right now, it looks as though the prize will be an artist print of 'What's A Girl To Do'. Not the prize you want? Maybe the new sneak peek has you wanting a different painting? Well then you better get to voting because Polls close at midnight. That's right. Today is your last day to vote before the Round Two Give-Away Polls are closed for good. You guys are also running short on time to become a follower, if you haven't done so yet. I don't want you to miss out on any of the fun, so as long as you become a follower of this blog by no later than 1pm tomorrow, then you will be eligible for this round's give-away.

I will be choosing the winners tomorrow.
And again, it WILL be random. So, good luck to everyone!

P. S.
Here is the video I had said I would release for you guys to tear apart. Ha.
Keep in mind how hard I've been working for you, and BE KIND! ;)

SNEAK PEEK @ Release One

by Nichole Camarillo

With all of the daily excitement, feedback, and encouragement everyone has been sending my way, it feels as if the time has been stretching to fit in so much more. I don't know about you, but I feel like I've been waiting forever. Thankfully release one of four in July's 'One A Week' project is almost here. Tomorrow I will drop the full painting, details, and product line. [YAY!]

I've been working damn near non-stop on everything. Telling you I'm exhausted would be a complete understatement. I am, however, equally excited, so it's all good. You guys definitely have a lot to do with that. Your excitement excites me, that's for sure. Ha.

So, I would like to say thank you for all of the kind words and appreciation surrounding this project. It definitely reinforces my initial intentions of starting this project. I would also like to add a hello for all of the new faces I've become acquainted with in this past week. Just so you guys know, the more people that follow, the bigger the prizes. So if you haven't yet, jump on in.

Now, as I mentioned, the full painting and details will be available to you tomorrow, on the appropriate gallery page of my website. I did however, want to give you a little taste of what you'll be seeing. So before you head over there, here are a few snippets of the new addition...

Release One of Four - By Nichole Camarillo

It's crazy, trust me.
And herrrre comes the fun part...

Give-Away!
I know you haven't forgot, so I wanted to reassure you that I haven't either. For this first round, I will be giving away an artist print of one of my paintings. For those of you who are curious, an artist print is different in that it is printed by the artist himself (or herself) and has an original signature from the artist, thus making it more valuable. NOT that I think any of you would take your precious gifts and turn them around on eBay or anything like that. ;P

Today is your last chance to start following before the Round One Give-Away. I will be choosing a winner tomorrow. I haven't decided yet in which manner I will handle that, but I know for sure, it WILL be random. So, good luck to everyone!

NOTE:
Winner will decide on painting to be printed. Print is not required to be of the new release, but certainly can be. There will only be one winner chosen for this first round.

SubZero 2009 Hit HARD

If you missed the opening SubZero art reception at South First Billiards, it's probably best that you stay in the dark about what exactly you missed.

Arriving just a couple hours after I had planned on, the list of happenings I was already regretting missing had grown to be of an enormous length. Thankfully the great people in the artist collective, Heart of Chaos, and all of the wonderful inhabitants of San Jose, know how to live it up. The SubZero Festival rocked through the night into the early hours of the morning. I love having so much fun. So many people supporting and enjoying the arts. And having a blast while doing so. Several live bands were performing. Lots of interactive performances and displays throughout the festival provided crazy visuals and arose countless questions. Many of the downtown galleries had their doors wide open, welcoming every avid art seeker dancing in the street. The thriving downtown San Jose scene was heavily spiced with street vendors, art of all walks, and endless treats to delight every one of your senses. Saying hello to so many familiar faces, and being introduced all night to new ones left my head spinning for days. Although, I'm sure kicking back (more than) a few drinks only intensified that sensation. It was quite the night out.

Although the SubZero event has packed its bags, South First Billiards will continue hosting many of my original paintings for the month of June. If you would like to check it out, South First Billiards is located at 420 South First Street in San Jose, CA. They have air hockey, ping pong, a seemingly endless number of billiard tables, karaoke, food, drinks, and more for you to enjoy during your visit. There are also many other talented artists displaying their work as well. It is definitely worth the trip.
Thank you for your support. Enjoy.
